STREČNO CASTLE (from Vrátna valley 20 km)

Strečno castle stands at the beginning of the STrečno Gorge against the Váh river current on its left bank on the steep limestone rock at an altitude of about 420 meters above sea level. Prehistoric find prove, that castle hill was already inhabited in Bronze and Iron Age. Strečno belonged to the royal castles. Althought the first written mention dates back to 1316, we surely can suppose that the castle already existed in 13th century. www.strecno.sk

STARÝ HRAD (from Vrátna valley 20 km)

It stands out in the forest background in Domašín meander of Váh river above the Strečno castle. The fortified settlement in its proximity proved that this place was fortified in prehitoric times. The name Starý hrad (old castle) shows that it is one of the oldest castles in Považie region. www.strecno.sk
